Newborn Products that Make Momming Easier
After giving birth to my first, I quickly learned about some must-have products that weren’t common. Obviously a new baby requires diapers, baby clothes, baby soaps/lotions, bottles, and so much more. I found some specific products that have seriously saved my life as a new mom. Here are a few.
Electric Nail File
Clipping baby nails is TERRIFYING. They don’t hold still, and their nails are SO fine and tiny, that it is extremely hard to avoid clipping their skin as well. I read up on this electric nail file, and it has made my life as a mom so much easier. This file has different settings, different files, and can be used for adults as well as babies. It has a little light on it for convenience as well. I am a BIG fan of this electric nail file and will recommend it to anyone that is expecting a baby! It is money that is VERY well spent. You can find it on Amazon here.
Muslin Burp Cloths
I discovered fairly quickly that newborns will spit-up and slobber a LOT. I found that I was doing laundry every other day just so that I could have more clean burp cloths. As I was using burp cloths like a fiend, I also found that there are a specific kind of burp cloth that I prefer over all others, and those are muslin burp cloths. These white muslin burp cloths are larger than your typical burp cloth, so if your baby spits up while being burped, this cloth will cover you better than any others. The material also absorbs the spit-up and slobber much better than other burp cloths you will find. I can use the same muslin burp cloth for most of the day, whereas other burp cloths are good for one decent spit-up mess. I loved these so much that after having one set, I had to buy another!
Newborn Clothes with Mittens attached
For the first 2 weeks of baby’s life, you aren’t supposed to clip (or file!) their nails because they are too brittle. I didn’t know this, but I wish I would’ve so that I could prepare for it better. I had some baby mittens, but none of them fit around my baby’s tiny wrists to stay on very well. I noticed that I was constantly putting mittens back on my babe, and I was constantly trying to tuck them under the long sleeves on shirts and pajamas.
These shirts are the best for newborns because until their umbilical chord falls off, you want to keep their little belly exposed. You don’t want onesies rubbing on the umbilical chord and pulling it off, which is why these little shirts are a necessity for the first week or two of your baby’s life. These shirts have little mittens that fold over and they are PERFECT. I also really like how they have buttons on the front so that you don’t have to try and pull things over your baby’s very unstable/weak head and neck. These specific shirts are white, and I like that because I can use them for both baby boys and baby girls.
Pajamas that have mittens are SO important too. Those little hands can get so cold at night if they break free from the swaddle. Babies can also scratch themselves REALLY good if they don’t have something covering their nails. I really like this specific pair for multiple reasons. It is gender neutral, it has the mittens, and it has snaps (which are great for late nigh diaper changes so that you don’t have to completely undress your baby).
BIBS Pacificers
I am quite passionate about these BIBS binkies. They are cute for one, but for two, they STAY in your baby’s mouth! During those early weeks at night, my son wanted a binky, but wouldn’t close his mouth all the way, so the binkies would fall out and we were CONSTANTLY having to get up out of bed just to pop that little sucker back in his mouth. It was an easy fix to his crying, but it would’ve been nice if the binky just stayed in his mouth so he wouldn’t cry in the first place. I found these binkies made by BIBS, and they do just that! They have a little bulb on the end of the binky so that if your baby slightly opens his/her mouth, the binky won’t slip out. They aren’t the cheapest pacifiers, but I’m willing to pay a little more in exchange for extra sleep!
Those are my four most helpful newborn products that I have discovered. They allowed me to stress less, get more sleep, and not have quite so much laundry to do. I HIGHLY recommend purchasing these baby products when preparing for your little bundle of joy! If you have any other newborn products that you thought were absolutely amazing, please tell me in the comments!

Yes! These products are really great ones. I haven’t heard of an electric file before, but that’s a brilliant idea. And muslin blankets/cloths etc. are sooooo helpful for sure!

These are all great ideas. I particularly like the electric nail file which would have been a life saver. It’s so hard to cut little baby nails and it also makes them super sharp. My must have was sleep sacks as neither of my girls liked to be swaddled. I am in Canada so nights can get chilly so a must have.

I’m currently 25 weeks pregnant so I have been doing ALL the research for my little to come. The nail file and the mittens aren’t something I’ve ever heard of nor have my mom friends mentioned them to me before! Thank you so much! I’ll have to check these out!

Brilliant products for a newborn! I have extensively used the electric nail filer for 1year with my firstborn and I feel that was a great buy. The newborn shirt with mittens looks like an awesome idea. Will look for one for my second baby. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for the suggestions! I only ever have my mother in law clip my babies nails, because I am so afraid to do it myself. That electric nail file would come in handy!

I can’t believe I’ve never heard of the electric nail file before! We accidentally clipped my son’s skin when he was a newborn and it totally traumatized my husband. I will have to get that file for our next baby!

I’ve never heard of the electric nail file! What a great tool. I’ve definitely accidentally clipped my kids’ fingers ugh. Love the Muslim burp cloths. So cute!

I loved the shirts with attached mittens. I live up north so that type of stuff is a must have.
