How to Tell Your Family You’re Expecting

We found out that we were pregnant right around Thanksgiving, but wanted to wait until Christmas to tell our families. We were SO excited and it was SUCH a hard secret to keep, but seeing their reactions on Christmas day was definitely worth the wait! I brainstormed so many ideas on how to tell them, and finally decided what I wanted to do. Our baby would be the first grandchild on both sides, so we had the advantage of being able to tell our parents and siblings that they were going to be grandparents and aunts/uncles for the first time.

We didn’t want our family to be suspicious, so we just wrapped an individual Christmas gift for every family member and had them open them at the same time. Everyone opened a onesie and a little piece of paper that had the due date on it. I wrapped the onesies in gift boxes and covered them in tissue paper and told them to open it face-up. It was such a fun surprise and made everyone’s Christmas even better than expected! Here are some pictures of our gifts for our family members!

We made copies of the best ultrasound we had at the time, and added one to each of the boxes, but you definitely wouldn’t have to do that! This is what it looked like when each box was opened!
Here are more designs that we had printed on the onesies.
As you can tell, our family members were very excited to find out that they were going to be grandparents/aunts/uncles!

Products we Bought for this Announcement

I got these white onesies on Amazon as a 15 pack. That was enough to cover the people that we were getting them for, but if you have less people to tell, then you can definitely order a small set! Ours specifically came in a variety of sizes, and since we had nothing for a baby at the time, I figured that having a couple of different sizes to start out with would be good. This was a nice gift because our family members didn’t keep the onesies, so we were able to get them back and use them. We did have to pay about $30-$40 to print the design on the onesies, plus the cost of the onesies on Amazon. I had them printed through my local college gift shop because that was the cheapest option, but there are plenty of custom t-shirt companies that would do it! The onesies were cheaper than normal t-shirts at the place we went to, so hopefully it is that way at all places! I just did the design myself to save money too. It was a super easy thing to do on Microsoft Word.

If you have any other fun ideas on how to announce a pregnancy to family members, feel free to comment and share!
