3 Ways to Deal With Postpartum Hair Loss

One of the many hard things that happens to your body after you have a baby is postpartum hair loss! I struggled to see so much hair in my brush, in the shower, on the bathroom floors, etc. It was not fun! My hair looked so glorious during pregnancy and I was not ready to give that up! I looked for ways to help my hair stay attached to my head, and wanted to share all of the tricks I found, in one post!

What is postpartum hair loss? During pregnancy, you have raised estrogen levels which results in amazing hair. After labor and birth, these levels drop rapidly. Postpartum hair loss usually begins 3-4 months postpartum and you can expect it to stop around 12 months postpartum. Here are some strategies that you can implement to lessen the effects of postpartum hair loss.

I am not a medical professional and don’t hold myself out to be. Although I have researched these strategies, seeking information from your doctor is still encouraged and recommended.

1. Take Vitamins/Supplements That Reduce Postpartum Hair Loss

There are several vitamins and supplements that you can take that will reduce postpartum hair loss. First of all, continuing to take your PRENATAL PILLS is really important. You can also take VITAMIN A, OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS, and COLLAGEN POWDER. These will all be of great help to boosting hair growth and preventing hair breakage/hair loss. Even if you don’t take all of these pills/supplements, at least take a few of them, because they will make a difference!

2. Take Care of Your Hair in 2 Easy Ways

Taking care of your hair is one of the most important things that you can do to avoid extra postpartum hair loss. There are products that you can use on your hair, and there are hairstyles that you can avoid. GINGER ROOT HAIR MASKS are great for postpartum hair loss, and so are COCONUT OIL HAIR MASKS. I really like both of these and they are inexpensive options which is great! Using VOLUMINIZING SHAMPOO is also a great way to help your hair. This specific shampoo is great because it has collagen in it! Collagen is great for helping postpartum hair!

If you are trying to minimize the effects of your postpartum hair loss, you should avoid styling your hair with heat. This goes for blow drying your hair too. You should also avoid tight hair styles, especially ones that involve a lot of elastics. Tight hair styles worsen hair loss by encouraging breakage of the hair. Wearing your hair in loose braids, loose ponytails, or wearing your hair down, is the best way to avoid more postpartum hair loss.

3. Reduce Stress and Maintain a Healthy Diet

I know, I know. Easier said than done. Reducing stress is no easy task, and eating healthier can be really hard too! If you are breastfeeding, you should really be trying to eat a healthier diet anyway. Eating healthy can really help promote hair growth and hair strength, which is exactly what our hair needs during this hair loss crisis!

Reducing stress can be done by making sure you are taking care of yourself. Be sure to find some time to relax and make time for yourself. Again, I know it’s easier said than done, but ask for help! Have your husband spend time with the baby, call a family member over to watch the baby while you do something relaxing (whether that is still at home, or out and about somewhere). Doing postnatal yoga and meditating can be great ways to reduce stress as well.

These are all great tricks to helping you reduce postpartum hair loss, but they won’t completely make it stop or make your hair grow back. They can just lessen the effects. You can try all of these before you are pregnant to help prevent more hair loss too. Do you have any other tips for postpartum hair loss problems? Tell me in the comments!
